Achieving Zero Waste
100% by 2030
Imagine an entire production facility where nothing goes to waste. That's where Humanscale started, but our imagination didn't stop there. In 2020, we achieved an impressive 90% waste diversion across all global facilities, qualifying us to pursue TRUE® (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) certification. Administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), TRUE® is a third-party program designed to help facilities define, pursue, and achieve zero waste goals while enhancing resource efficiency.
Our success at implementing TRUE®'s standards has been staggering. Embracing TRUE®'s Zero Waste policy, our goal in 2020 was to climb from 90% waste diversion to 100% by 2030, improving by at least 1% each year. By the end of 2022, we'd already outpaced that goal by double, reaching over 94% waste diversion from landfills, incineration (waste is not allowed to be burned), and surrounding environments globally.
What does it take internally to make this a reality? In short: determination. Effort and meticulous oversight are required to not only ensure we're meeting requirements, but that we're continually pushing forward, always finding new opportunities to waste less and less by the day. This job falls really relies on employees at each facility, who rigorously sort through and test waste, recycling it appropriately and even reusing it when possible.
These actions add up to larger and larger results with every year, pushing sustainability forward and pioneering best practices our entire industry can use. The more companies that follow our lead, the faster we can all shift away from rapid consumption, towards a more circular model. For responsible manufacturers, time has run out to simply do less harm. The fight against climate change requires a ground-up restructuring of production methods, and Humanscale is proud to be leading the charge.
